Anthropic told investors Q3 revenue hit $16.8 billion, up 45%, ahead of a reported November IPO
Reportedly profitable on an adjusted basis and cash-flow positive, the Claude maker tripled revenue since the first quarter. Every figure comes from people familiar with the matter, not a filing.
Anthropic told prospective investors its third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, CNBC reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times carried the same number. None of it is in a public filing yet, so treat every figure here as reported, not confirmed by the company.
The quarter-by-quarter numbers
| Quarter (2026) | Reported revenue | Change from prior quarter (our math) |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | $4.7 billion | n/a |
| Q2 | $11.6 billion | +147% |
| Q3 | $16.8 billion | +45% |
The Financial Times headline rounded the Q3 gain to "nearly 50%"; the Wall Street Journal put it at 45%, which is what $16.8 billion over $11.6 billion works out to. The more important comparison is the slowdown: growth fell from roughly 2.5 times in one quarter to about 1.45 times in the next. Revenue is still up about 3.6 times since the first quarter, but the rate of acceleration is the thing the IPO market will price.
For scale, Reuters reported in September that Anthropic's 2025 revenue was about $4.6 billion, per its prospectus. Q3 alone is now more than three times that full year. Our earlier story on the prospectus covers the loss and accounting-charge side.
Profit and compute, as reported
People familiar told CNBC that Anthropic said it was profitable on an adjusted basis in the quarter. The FT, as relayed by CNBC, reported the company is cash-flow positive and generated $1.70 of revenue for every dollar spent on computing power. "Adjusted" is carrying weight here: the prospectus Reuters described showed a large operating loss for 2025, so the definition of the adjustment is the first thing to look for in the public S-1.
The $1.70 figure is the one worth remembering. Compute is the main cost of selling an AI model, and a ratio above 1.0 means each dollar of capacity is bringing back more than a dollar. It does not say anything about training costs, stock compensation or the commitments Anthropic has signed with suppliers.
What to watch
- Timing: CNBC says the IPO is reportedly slated for November. No pricing range was reported in the pieces we read.
- Expectations: The Wall Street Journal reported investors expect annualized revenue of $110 billion by year-end. Q3 at $16.8 billion annualizes to about $67 billion (our math), so that expectation needs a steep Q4.
- Suppliers and customers: Companies selling compute to AI labs and businesses building on Claude's API are reading the same numbers. A company that spent heavily on AI tools this year has a stake in whether the vendor's pricing power holds once it is public.
Until a public S-1/A lands on SEC EDGAR, these are investor-presentation numbers relayed by anonymous sources. Our view on that doesn't change the facts: revenue is growing fast, and the open questions are margins and durability.
