Bitcoin at $82,900: prediction markets put 54% on a year-end price below $85,000

Robinhood's year-end Bitcoin contracts cluster tightly around today's price, with 18% on $100,000 or more and 18% under $70,000. Its "how low" market has a pricing kink worth knowing about.

Traders on Robinhood's prediction markets are paying 13 cents on the dollar for a contract that pays out if Bitcoin ends 2026 between $80,000 and $84,999.99, the most expensive single bucket on the board, tied with the $75,000 to $79,999.99 range. Added up, the buckets at or below $85,000 cost 54 cents. That is not a forecast. It is what a real-money market was charging on Monday night, in a snapshot collected at 10:26 p.m. New York time.

Bitcoin itself was at $82,913.72 on Coinbase at about 10:30 p.m., down 0.6% from the 24-hour open of $83,408.94, according to Coinbase Exchange market data. So the market's favourite bucket is the one the price is already sitting in.

What the year-end board is paying

Year-end rangeContract priceDistance from $82,914
Under $70,000 (all buckets)18 centsat least 15.6% lower
$70,000 to $74,999.9910 centsabout 10% to 16% lower
$75,000 to $79,999.9913 centsabout 4% to 10% lower
$80,000 to $84,999.9913 centscurrent price
$85,000 to $89,999.9911 cents2.5% to 8.5% higher
$90,000 to $99,999.9915 centsabout 9% to 21% higher
$100,000 or more (all buckets)18 centsat least 20.6% higher

The buckets add to 98 cents rather than a dollar, which is ordinary rounding and spread in a market split into 28 pieces. Read loosely, the board puts a bit more than half its weight on a finish between $70,000 and $95,000 (56 cents) and splits the rest evenly between the two tails.

That symmetry is the useful part. Bitcoin opened the year at $87,497.95 on Coinbase and is down 5.2% since. Its 2026 range, from Coinbase daily candles, runs from a high of $97,963.62 on January 14 to a low of $57,717.55 on July 1. The prices on the year-end board imply roughly as much room below today's level as above it, over three months that have already contained a 40% swing inside nine.

The kink in the "how low" market

Robinhood also lists a separate market on how low Bitcoin gets in 2026. Its thresholds from $60,000 to $80,000 are quoted at 91 to 97 cents with no open interest at all, and that is not a signal: Bitcoin already traded below $60,000 this year, at the July 1 low above, so those contracts describe something that has effectively happened. Settlement depends on Robinhood's own reference price and rules, which may differ from Coinbase's print.

The live part starts below that. A new 2026 low under $55,000, a 33.7% drop from here, costs 12 cents. A low under $50,000 costs 13 cents. That second price cannot be right in any strict sense, because Bitcoin cannot fall below $50,000 without first falling below $55,000. When a cheaper outcome is priced above the one that contains it, the prices are being set by thin, uneven quoting rather than by a crowd that has worked the problem through. It is a reason to treat every number on these boards as a rough range rather than a precise odds line.

How thick the money is

The snapshot recorded no trading volume on any Bitcoin contract, so these prices reflect standing positions and quotes rather than a busy day of trading. Open interest is substantial, between about 280,000 and 470,000 contracts per year-end bucket, with the "$150,000 or above" bucket the largest. The biggest crypto market on the board by some distance is a simple yes-or-no on Bitcoin topping $200,000 by the end of January 2027: about 3.98 million contracts open, priced at 2 cents. Bitcoin would need to rise 141% to get there.

For context, the same site's contract on the Federal Reserve's October 28 meeting prices a quarter-point hike at 73 cents, on real volume of 65,406 contracts. We covered the Fed's September hike to 3.75%-4% and how crypto took it. Rising rates are the backdrop every one of these year-end prices is set against.
