The trigger was oil, not crypto
The selling started outside crypto. President Trump rejected Iran's latest conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and Brent crude climbed back above $100, CoinDesk reported. Gold, silver and U.S. stock futures fell alongside crypto. Bitcoin's overnight range on Coinbase ran from $82,550 to $85,159. Smaller tokens took the bigger hit: CoinDesk said 91 of the 100 coins in its CoinDesk 100 index were lower, with DeFi tokens and last Friday's biggest gainers giving back the most. Our pre-market brief has the oil and gold moves in full.
Record ETF money, lower prices
The number that does not fit the headline is the ETF flow. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $2.39 billion last week, their biggest week since October 2025, including $134.5 million on Friday, Cointelegraph reported, citing SoSoValue. Spot Ether ETFs added about $690 million. Yet Bitcoin is down 3.9% and Ether 3.8% since last Monday's close. Most of the buying came early in the week, near $1 billion on Monday alone, when prices were highest; daily inflows then slowed as Bitcoin slid from above $87,100.
Solana shows the same gap more sharply. Spot Solana ETFs drew a record $188 million last week, with every fund taking in money, according to CoinDesk. Solana's price is flat over the same seven days. For traders, the lesson of the week is that fund inflows have not been enough, by themselves, to hold prices up when the wider market turns.
That matters for the level we have been tracking. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart estimates the average cost of bitcoin held in U.S. spot ETFs at $81,722, Cointelegraph reported. Bitcoin is now about $1,520, or 1.9%, above it. On Sunday morning that cushion was 3.9%.
Bitget and the rest
Bitget resumed Bitcoin withdrawals on Monday after last week's breach, which it now puts at $387.5 million, Cointelegraph reported. Ether withdrawals are scheduled for Tuesday, Tether's USDT for Wednesday, and other assets on Friday. The attacker has been swapping stolen Ether for Bitcoin through THORChain. Our Bitget story has the full schedule. We looked for a specific reason behind Chainlink's relative strength and did not find one in the reports we read.
What traders are watching
- Oil and the Iran talks, which drove Monday's selling across assets.
- The $81,722 ETF cost estimate, now less than 2% below Bitcoin's price, and whether this week's flows turn negative.
- Bitget's Ether and USDT withdrawals on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Treasury yields. See the 10-year chart.
