Bitcoin at $84,942, Ether at $2,712: crypto prices today, September 27, 2026

Bitcoin traded at about $84,942 on Coinbase early Sunday, up 1.1% over 24 hours and 4.7% over seven days. Ether was at $2,712, up 0.9% on the day. Solana was the strongest of the eight coins we track, up 2.5% to $124.13. XRP was the only one lower, slipping 0.2%, and Avalanche remains the only coin down on the week.

A quiet weekend, still below Monday

Bitcoin's overnight range on Coinbase was narrow, from $83,811 to $85,112. The seven-day figure looks strong, but it still rests on last Monday's jump. Bitcoin closed Monday, September 21 (UTC) at about $86,595 and is about 1.9% below that now. Ether is about 2.3% below its Monday close of $2,776. The level we have been tracking is further away: Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart puts the average cost of bitcoin held in U.S. spot ETFs at $81,722, Cointelegraph reported. Bitcoin is about $3,220, or 3.9%, above it, up from a 2.9% cushion on Saturday morning. We had still not seen Friday's ETF flow figure at publication. The last one we read was a $191 million net inflow on Thursday, according to Cointelegraph.

What was in the news

The Bitget XRP. The attacker in Thursday's Bitget breach has moved about 54 million of the nearly 103 million XRP taken, CoinDesk reported from XRP Ledger records, leaving about 49 million in the original holding accounts. Unlike the stablecoins Circle and Tether froze, XRP itself cannot be blocked by Ripple. The transfers show the coins being spread across more wallets but not how much has been sold. To put the remainder in context: 49 million XRP is worth about $75 million at Sunday's price, and it equals about 84% of the 58.3 million XRP that traded on Coinbase in the past 24 hours. That is why XRP holders are watching where those coins land. Bitget has said its protection fund covers the losses and that withdrawals will resume in stages from September 28 through October 2. Solana. We found no single report explaining Solana's gain. The main project news was that Alpenglow, an upgrade that aims to cut settlement time to about 150 milliseconds from about 12.8 seconds, is now running on both of Solana's public test networks, CoinDesk reported. No date is set for the live network, and the speed figure comes from simulations. One detail matters for anyone reading Solana activity charts: the upgrade takes validator votes out of blocks, so reported transaction counts will fall even if real usage does not.

Stablecoins and miners. Binance invested $100 million in Circle and signed a five-year deal to promote USDC, CoinDesk reported. USDC's market value is about $74 billion, compared with about $140 billion for Tether's USDT. Separately, bitcoin miner Riot Platforms repaid a $200 million credit facility from Coinbase Credit that had been secured with bitcoin, USDC and cash, freeing that collateral, according to an SEC filing reported by Cointelegraph.
