SAP Pay adds USDC and EURC through Tereina, but only Circle Mint account holders can use it

Circle and the SAP-backed payments company Tereina are putting dollar and euro stablecoins inside SAP finance software. Eligibility rules and testing plans show how early it is.

Circle announced on October 7 that its USDC and EURC stablecoins are coming to SAP customers through Tereina, a payments company backed by SAP, Cointelegraph reports. Businesses can send and receive stablecoin payments inside the finance software they already use, instead of opening a separate crypto tool.

How it works

USDC is named as the preferred stablecoin for dollar payments and EURC for euro payments. The announcement says the companies plan to test the integration with customers over the coming months, including for global payments and treasury operations. Tereina describes itself as an embedded-payments provider for business software, and the option appears as part of SAP Pay, which launched October 6. The announcement also says SAP's ecosystem accounts for 84% of global commerce. That is the companies' own claim, and we could not check it independently.

The catch: you need a Circle Mint account

The most useful detail comes from CryptoSlate, which read the product page closely. To use USDC through SAP Pay, a business needs an eligible institutional Circle Mint account. Individuals are excluded. Circle's onboarding includes background checks, identity verification and sanctions screening, which the report says can take from a day to a week or longer. The service is described as generally available in the U.S. and U.K., and transactions are limited to customers or affiliates based in the U.S. or EU unless documented otherwise.

So the headline "SAP customers can pay in stablecoins" is accurate in principle and narrow in practice. A treasurer at a mid-sized company would need to pass Circle's review first, and no transaction volumes or customer savings have been disclosed.

Why a small-business owner should care

For most small businesses, this is background news. SAP serves large and mid-sized companies. The practical interest is the direction of travel. Cross-border supplier payments through banks are slow and carry fees, and stablecoin settlement can run around the clock. If large companies adopt it, suppliers of any size may be asked to accept it. That is a possibility, not a trend we can measure yet.

It also matters that the euro option exists. Most stablecoin volume is in dollars, and EURC gives European treasuries a native option. For where USDC fits in the wider market, see our earlier stablecoin coverage and the crypto page.
