Amazon drops Grubhub for Uber Eats: Prime members get $0 delivery on orders of $25 or more

Amazon made Uber Eats its restaurant delivery partner for Prime on Thursday and ended its Grubhub+ deal. Uber shares were up 2.3% before the open and DoorDash down 3%, but neither company says what restaurants will pay.

Amazon has made Uber Eats the restaurant delivery partner for its Prime members in the United States, replacing Grubhub. According to Amazon's announcement, Prime members can now order from Uber Eats inside Amazon.com or the Amazon Shopping app, with a $0 delivery fee on orders of $25 or more and no separate Uber account needed.

What changes for Prime members

  • Delivery fee: $0 on qualifying Uber Eats restaurant orders of $25 or more, ordered through Amazon. Amazon says members could save "more than $175 per year," an estimate it built from August 2026 order data and compared against ordering on Uber Eats without an Uber One membership. It adds that savings vary and are not guaranteed.
  • Launch offer: $20 off each of a member's first two Uber Eats orders of $25 or more, for the first 14 days.
  • Grubhub: Amazon told TechCrunch its commercial agreement with Grubhub ends Thursday, and a Grubhub spokesperson confirmed that. Members who had already activated Grubhub+ keep it through December 31, 2027, but can no longer order through Amazon.
  • Price of Prime: unchanged at $14.99 a month or $139 a year, per Amazon.

On the numbers Amazon gave, the claimed $175 a year is about 1.26 times the $139 annual fee ($175 divided by $139). That is the company's own estimate for a typical user, not a measured result, so treat it as marketing until independent data appears.

The market's first read

Nasdaq quotes at 8:51 AM ET, before the open, showed Uber at $71.48, up 2.3%, Amazon at $271.08, up 1.9%, and DoorDash at $192.73, down 3.0%. We could not tie those moves to anything beyond the timing, and early quotes can reverse by the open. DoorDash was not named in either source.

Uber closed Wednesday at $69.87, 25.7% below its November 10, 2025 high in our chart, so the shares were well off the peak before today's news.

Who it hits: the restaurant on the other end

For the owner of an independent restaurant, the practical change is where orders come from. If the restaurant is already on Uber Eats, it may see orders from Prime members who never opened Uber's own app. Amazon says "hundreds of thousands" of restaurants are available, including national chains such as Wingstop, Chipotle and Sweetgreen.

What neither company has said is who pays for the waived delivery fee, and whether restaurants pay a different commission on orders that arrive through Amazon. That is the number an owner needs before deciding whether the volume is worth it. Take an order of $25: if a platform commission applies to the food total, a restaurant's cut comes out of the same $25 whether the customer pays $0 or $5 for delivery, so a free-delivery push helps volume but does nothing for margin on its own. We have not seen the commercial terms, so we cannot say whether anything differs.

The same caution applies to the Grubhub side. A restaurant that gets steady orders through Grubhub+ members who came via Prime should watch its own order counts over the next few weeks. Grubhub's Prime-linked traffic ends now, apart from members who already activated Grubhub+.

605,380 independent restaurants are listed on CheckThisBiz, a directory of 7,704,724 independent US businesses, including 79,108 in CA, 54,058 in TX, 51,387 in NY. Chains and franchises are excluded from that count, so these are the owner-operated businesses that actually apply for funding.

That is a large pool of owner-operated businesses, many of which list on more than one delivery app. For them the sensible step this week is to check their Uber Eats dashboard for a new traffic source and to compare the fee and commission statements month over month. What we do not know

  • The financial terms between Amazon and Uber. Neither source discloses them.
  • Whether restaurants pay different fees on Amazon-originated orders.
  • How many Prime members will use it. Amazon's savings figure is an estimate for a typical user.

TechCrunch notes the two companies already work together on cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis, and Uber Eats inside Alexa+. In October we covered DoorDash's reported talks about a $17 billion Instacart deal, another sign of how much of the delivery market is being rearranged.
