Claim your free CheckThisBiz business listing: what it actually changes

If you run an independent business in the US, there is a good chance a listing for it already exists on CheckThisBiz, built from public business data, whether or not you ever signed up for anything. That listing shows your name, address, phone number and whatever else is publicly known, and right now nobody is checking it for you. Here is what claiming it changes, and what it does not.

First, check if you're listed

Search your business by name, or paste in your phone number or website, at checkthisbiz.com/search. If a listing exists, you'll see it immediately. If it doesn't, the site adds new businesses on a rolling basis, so it's worth checking back.

What "claiming" actually does

An unclaimed listing is just whatever the public data says, which can be wrong, outdated, or missing pieces entirely. Claiming it is free and takes a few minutes: verify you're the owner with a business-domain email, a call to your listed number, or documents, and a person reviews the claim, usually within one business day. Once it's approved:

• You control the details. Corrections to your name, address, phone and website submitted by a verified owner are applied to the listing, instead of sitting wrong indefinitely.
• You get an "Owner verified" mark on your profile, which also counts toward the listing's check score, the same score CheckThisBiz shows searchers to help them decide who to call.
• Customers can message you directly from your listing, straight to your email.

Why the details being right actually matters now

A wrong address or a dead phone number used to just be an inconvenience. Now it's also what a customer's phone or an AI assistant reads back to them when they ask "who does this near me."
