Cross River Bank brings Ripple's $2.5B RLUSD stablecoin into its banking core
Cross River Bank will let fintech clients move between dollars and the $2.5 billion RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger. The release does not mention XRP the token or X Money.
Cross River Bank said on Oct. 15 that it has integrated Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin into its core banking platform, with support for transactions on the XRP Ledger. The bank's own release is the source for everything below.
What was announced
RLUSD becomes another payment rail inside Cross River's Core Operating System. Clients reach it through a single API connection, without running blockchain infrastructure themselves. Fintechs can move between U.S. dollars and RLUSD, settle cross-border and treasury movements around the clock, and use ACH, wires and real-time payments on the same platform. The bank pitches issuers and acquirers on intraday settlement and lower settlement latency.
The release cites company figures: XRP Ledger transactions settling in 3 to 5 seconds at a fraction of a cent, more than $1.3 trillion settled on the ledger to date, RLUSD market capitalization above $2.5 billion, and more than $1 billion of it issued on the XRP Ledger. These are Cross River and Ripple's numbers, not independently audited here. The release also says services are currently available in limited states.
What it does not say
- XRP the token: RLUSD is a dollar stablecoin, a separate asset from XRP. The release describes no role for XRP in the bank's flows, a point CryptoSlate also raised.
- X Money: a crypto video circulating this week links Cross River to X Money. The release does not mention it, and we found no reliable source confirming that relationship, so we are not reporting it.
- Volume: no customer names or transaction volumes. It is an added option for clients, not a replacement for existing rails.
Who it touches
The practical audience is fintechs and payment companies that bank with Cross River and move money across borders or settle with card networks. For them the change is a settlement choice: dollars arriving in seconds on a weekend instead of waiting for a bank-hours rail. A small merchant will not see it directly; it shows up, if at all, in how quickly a payment processor can pay out.
