Didi of the Bitcoin Family says the bear market bottom date is today. Here is what the chart shows

Twelve months after bitcoin's $126,000 peak, the Dutch bitcoiner who sold everything in 2017 says the bottom is probably in. We checked his numbers and who he is.

In his October 6 video, Didi Taihuttu of The Bitcoin Family makes a simple argument. In past cycles the bear market bottom has landed about 12 months after the bull market top. Bitcoin's top was October 2025, so the bottom date, he says, is now. He puts the probability that the low is already in at about 90%, and says he expects a dip to the low 80s or high 70s first. He is clear that this is his opinion and that he is not a financial advisor.

Checking the dates

The top is confirmed. CoinGecko's all-time high is $126,080 on October 6, 2025, and Binance.US shows a daily high of $125,999 that day. Bitcoin trades near $83,850 on the anniversary, about 33% below the peak. His supporting statistic about months also holds up for the recent past: on Binance.US data, October finished higher in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 (gains of 10%, 28%, 40%, 5%, 28% and 11%) and fell 3.9% in 2025. So far this month it is flat, up 0.1%. The strong October record is a seasonality pattern, not a law, and a handful of samples is thin.

What to be careful with

A date count is a pattern from a small number of cycles, and he gives a window, not a day: early October to late November in past cycles. He also notes that a 30% drop from here is still possible. That is a drop to around $59,000, not a collapse, but not a small number either. The 23 national governments he says now have a bitcoin reserve strategy is a looser count than most trackers use. Counts of governments that actually hold bitcoin are lower, with Bitwise tallying 13, because holding coins and announcing a policy are different things.

The man behind the channel

Didi Taihuttu is a Dutch entrepreneur born in 1978 in Venlo. In 2017 he and his family sold their belongings and began living on bitcoin, and they have been known since as the Bitcoin Family, per Wikipedia. They have traveled through dozens of countries, written two books, and were profiled by CNBC, which reported in 2025 that the family hid their crypto recovery codes on metal cards on four continents after a wave of kidnappings in the industry. In the video he said he received a lifestyle columnist award for the Bitcoin Family at an event the day before. We could not find independent coverage of that award, so we are reporting it as his statement.

His strategy, in his words

Didi says he does not trade the cycle. He converts what he earns into bitcoin every month, holds no dollars or euros, and has lived unbanked for over ten years. His argument is that holding any bitcoin for about 3.6 years has historically broken even or made a profit, so timing matters less than staying in. That is a claim about history, and bitcoin's drops of well over 50% in past bear markets show that the holding period can feel very long. His challenge to viewers, put half your savings in bitcoin and compare what each half buys in five years, is a fair test that anyone can run themselves.
