Wednesday is the most crowded day of the month: Fed, Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet, with a 5% 10-year underneath
The Fed decides at 2 p.m. ET, Apple shows at 1 p.m. ET, and two $3.9 trillion companies report after the close. The biggest risk is not the hold markets expect. It is a hawkish tone with the 10-year Treasury at 5.00%.
Wednesday, Oct. 28 stacks four market events into one session: the Federal Reserve's rate decision, an Apple event, earnings from Microsoft and Alphabet, and the middle day of Ripple's Swell conference. The order matters, because the Fed lands first, in the middle of the afternoon, and the biggest earnings reports land after it. A surprise at 2 p.m. ET will be priced into the same stocks that report a few hours later.
The risk: a hold is expected, so the tone is what can surprise
The Fed's calendar lists the October meeting for Oct. 27-28. The target range is 3 3/4 to 4 percent after the Sept. 16 hike, and our market feed shows the funds rate near 3.88%. The statement is due at 2 p.m. ET.
What is priced: Robinhood's prediction markets, read from our data feed (collected Oct. 26 at 7:30 PM ET), show "maintain rates" at 93%, a quarter-point hike at 8%, a larger hike at 1% and a cut at 1%. Contracts are separate markets, so the figures do not add to exactly 100. Each has more than 700,000 in listed volume. We tried to load CME's FedWatch tool directly this morning and it did not respond, so we are not quoting a FedWatch percentage. One secondary site put CME's hold odds near 83% on Oct. 20, which we could not verify, and it is older than the Robinhood reading. The same Robinhood data prices zero rate cuts in 2026 at 94%.
The Fed's calendar page does not list a press conference or a new set of projections for October. The New York Times previews the meeting under the headline "The Fed Is Expected to Hold Rates Steady. Warsh Will Have to Explain Why." We could not read the article, and we have not confirmed a press conference time. Check the Fed's site Wednesday morning before planning around one.
Why tone is the risk: the 10-year yield is about 5.00% this morning and the 2-year about 4.69%, according to the live rates on our markets page. Mortgages follow the long end. A statement that keeps hikes on the table lifts yields into a day when big-cap tech reports. A statement that sounds finished with hikes could do the reverse.

Apple: a touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected, not announced
Apple sent invitations on Oct. 19 for an event at 10 a.m. Pacific in Los Angeles with the tagline "Pro and tell," according to several tech outlets. Apple has not said what it will show. A touchscreen MacBook Pro is the widely reported expectation, and one report points to shipping around Nov. 6. That is expectation, not an Apple statement. Apple itself reports earnings on Nov. 2, according to the trackers we checked, so Wednesday is a product day and not a results day.
Microsoft and Alphabet: two $3.9 trillion reports after the Fed
Nasdaq's earnings calendar lists both as after-hours reports for the quarter ending September. The consensus earnings per share figures it shows are $4.71 for Microsoft (14 estimates) and $2.94 for Alphabet (14 estimates), against $4.13 and $2.87 in the same quarter last year. Market values listed are $3.90 trillion and $3.92 trillion. Our Monday story on Microsoft's voluntary exit offer to 60,000 employees is the context for its call. The same calendar lists ServiceNow, KLA, T-Mobile and others on other dates or times; its data mixes estimated dates, so we are only naming the two we could cross-check. Amazon reports Thursday, Oct. 29, per the trackers.
Economic data: nothing else on Wednesday
Our economic calendar lists the FOMC decision as the only U.S. release for Oct. 28. Jobless claims follow Thursday (forecast 199,000 against 194,000 prior), and the jobs report is Nov. 6.
DTCC tokenization: live in a controlled form, the October launch is unconfirmed
DTCC's service is not simply "live" or "dated." The TRADE reported that on July 15 DTCC took its tokenization platform into live production in a controlled environment for DTC participants, with 1,000 securities in scope, and that a broader launch was planned for October. We checked dtcc.com and found no announcement of that broader launch, and no date for it. Do not treat Wednesday as a launch day. If DTCC announces one, it will matter to tokenization stories we have covered, such as tokenized stocks on OKX.
Crypto and Swell
Bitcoin traded near $79,960 and Ether near $2,317 on Coinbase at 7:06 AM ET. Swell is Ripple's own conference, and it follows the final OCC approval for its national trust bank. We have no schedule of Swell sessions to publish, so any announcements are a bonus and not a scheduled catalyst.
What to do with a day like this
Owners with a line that floats on prime face no change unless the Fed moves. A hold keeps prime at 7.00%, as we showed in our Main Street breakdown. Traders should expect the widest range after 2 p.m. and again after the close, because futures trade into the evening.
