Figma beats and raises, but shares fall 7% after hours as growth slows from 43% to a guided 33%
Revenue of $391.4 million topped Figma's own guidance by $16.4 million, yet the fourth-quarter outlook implies about 3% growth from the third quarter, and the company says it is giving customers more AI credits at the same price.
Figma reported third-quarter results after the close on Wednesday, and the market's reaction tells you what it cared about. Revenue rose 43% to $391.4 million, which the company said was $16.4 million above the top of its own guidance. It raised its full-year forecast. The shares still fell 7% in extended trading, CNBC reported, because the quarter that comes next is slower.
The numbers, from Figma's own release
| Q3 2026 (ended Sept. 30) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $391.4M, up 43% year over year |
| GAAP operating loss | $(119.2)M, a margin of (30)% |
| Non-GAAP operating income | $47.0M, a 12% margin |
| GAAP net loss | $(81.3)M, or $(0.15) a share |
| Non-GAAP net income | $53.7M, or $0.10 a share |
| Free cash flow | $41.5M, an 11% margin |
| Cash and marketable securities | $1.7B |
| Net dollar retention | 131% |
CNBC put the consensus from LSEG at $375.8 million in revenue and 5 cents in adjusted earnings per share, against Figma's $391.4 million and 10 cents. Figma's net loss narrowed from $1.10 billion a year earlier, a quarter the company's release does not explain and that we did not research further.
The number behind the number: growth is slowing fast
For the fourth quarter Figma guided to $402.0 million to $404.0 million, which it says is 33% growth at the midpoint. That is above the 28% LSEG analysts expected, per CNBC, so it is a beat. It is also ten points slower than the 43% just reported.
The sequential picture is starker. Our arithmetic: the $403 million midpoint is about 3% above the $391.4 million in Q3. The full-year guide of $1.497 billion to $1.499 billion is a $33 million raise, per the release, but much of that raise is the Q3 beat that has already happened.
The explanation on offer comes from finance chief Praveer Melwani, who told CNBC the company started giving customers more AI credits while holding prices, which means "trading off near-term revenue" for durable growth later. Figma's release says weekly users consuming credits among customers paying over $10,000 a year rose almost 50% from July 1 to Oct. 31, and 65% of those customers were using its AI agent. Whether that usage turns into revenue is the open question.

The gap between the two operating lines is large. GAAP operating loss was $119.2 million and non-GAAP operating income was $47.0 million, a difference of $166.2 million (our arithmetic). The release's tables, which we did not read in full, carry the reconciling items; stock-based compensation is typically the largest in a recently listed software company, but we have not confirmed that split for this quarter. The cash figure is cleaner: $48.4 million of operating cash flow and $41.5 million of free cash flow.
Shares have fallen about 41% so far in 2026, CNBC said, against a 12% gain in the S&P 500. The chart above shows the stock at $22.13 at Wednesday's close, about 52% below its November 2025 peak. Earlier this year investors worried AI models could replace design tools, and the company is now arguing the opposite: that as code becomes cheap, design is where value accrues.
Who this reaches
- Agencies, in-house design teams and small software shops that pay per seat. Figma says customers kept adding seats, and that it is adding AI usage without raising list prices. Watch the next renewal for any change in how credits are metered.
- Freelancers and small studios weighing tools. CNBC noted that Canva, a rival, said a day earlier it would cut 22% of its employees, a reminder that the design-software market is being rebuilt around AI and that vendors are under cost pressure.
- Investors in recent software listings watching whether growth that is decelerating but still above 30% is rewarded. After-hours trading on Wednesday suggests that was not enough for buyers this time.
