Netflix reports Q3 on Oct. 20: guidance was $12.86 billion in revenue and a 33.2% margin
Netflix's own forecast sets the bar: revenue growth of about 12% and an operating margin of 33.2%, up from 28.2% a year ago. Ads, pricing and the first earnings since a 6% layoff are what traders will be watching.
Netflix is due to report third-quarter results on Tuesday, October 20, after the market close, according to the company's investor-relations announcement as reported by several calendars. Check ir.netflix.net for the exact release time; we could not read the event time on the investor site itself, so we are not printing one. The company's own forecast, in its July 16 shareholder letter, is the yardstick.
What Netflix guided
| Q3 2026 forecast (from the July letter) | Netflix guidance | Q3 2025 actual |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $12,860 million (+11.7%) | $11,510 million |
| Operating income | $4,268 million | $3,248 million |
| Operating margin | 33.2% | 28.2% |
| Diluted EPS | $0.82 | $0.59 |
The letter said Q3 growth of about 12% (11% excluding currency) would be "driven by growth in memberships, pricing, and ad revenue." For the full year, Netflix narrowed its revenue range to $51.0 to $51.4 billion and kept its operating margin forecast at 31.5%.
The number behind the number: growth is slowing
Revenue growth in the letter's table runs 17.2% in Q3 2025, 17.6% in Q4, 16.2% in Q1 2026, 13.4% in Q2 and a forecast 11.7% for Q3. That is a clear deceleration, and the stock fell sharply after the July letter, according to coverage of it. A report that merely lands on the forecast confirms the slowdown; the debate is whether the full-year range still holds, which needs a stronger Q4.
The margin comparison is flattering by construction. Q3 2025 was a weak 28.2%, so a 33.2% print is a five-point jump on paper, but Q2 2026 was already 33.4%. Flat sequentially is what guidance implies.
What to watch
- Ads. The letter credits ad revenue as one of three growth drivers but, in the text we read, gives no dollar figure. Any number or target on the call is new information.
- Pricing. Netflix said results of its recent price changes were consistent with prior changes. Its U.S. and Canada revenue grew 10% in Q2 with only a partial-quarter effect of the latest increase, so Q3 is the first full quarter to show it.
- Engagement. View hours grew 2% in the first half, against 1.5% growth in 2025.
- Costs after the layoff. As we reported on October 14, Netflix is cutting about 1,000 jobs, roughly 6% of staff. Whether severance shows up in Q3 or Q4 will affect how clean the margin looks.
The letter does not mention password sharing in the portions we read, so we are not treating it as a swing factor this quarter.
