Prepare your business for time away

Retreat goal-setting worksheet for business owners

Turn a vague wish into three or four observable goals with a time frame and a way to check them. Use the worksheet before booking and after returning.

A retreat goal-setting worksheet turns a vague wish to reset into three or four specific, checkable outcomes. Write them before you book, review them halfway, and score them when you return.

Why goals first

Programs differ in what they do well. A clear goal helps you choose between a fitness retreat, coaching retreat or a hybrid, see Fitness retreat vs executive coaching retreat.

A useful goal has four parts

  • A behavior or outcome you can observe.
  • A time frame, such as at the end of the stay or 30 days after.
  • A way to check it.
  • A reason it matters to the business or your life.

Examples (illustrative)

VagueBetter
Get fitTrain four mornings a week for the 30 days after I return, tracked in a log
Think clearlyWrite a one-page decision on the partnership question before leaving
RestSleep seven hours on most nights, tracked for two weeks

Use the worksheet

Work through the prompts on this page. Keep it to one page. Share your top goal with someone who will ask about it. If your goals involve health, check with your clinician.

Mid-trip and return review

Halfway through, reread your goals. Adjust if they no longer fit; a retreat often changes what matters. When you return, score each goal honestly as met, partly met or not met, and note what got in the way. Carry unmet goals into your first week back plan rather than dropping them.

Avoid these goal traps

  • Goals that depend on other people.
  • Goals with no check, such as "be calmer".
  • Too many goals, which turns the trip into a to-do list.

If your goals involve weight, injury or other health topics, treat them as discussions for your clinician, not outcomes a retreat can promise.
