Retreat meal plans and dietary questions

Ask who cooks, what a typical day of meals looks like, how allergies and preferences are handled, and whether alcohol and snacks are included.

The short answer

A meal plan is a promise about food you will eat every day for weeks. Get the details: who cooks, what is served, how restrictions are handled, and what is not included.

What to ask about the plan

  • How many meals and snacks are provided each day?
  • Who cooks and are menus planned around training?
  • Can you see a sample week?
  • What happens on days off or excursions?
  • Are drinks, alcohol and eating out included?

Allergies and medical diets

If you have an allergy, intolerance or medical diet, say so at application, not on arrival. Ask how ingredients are labelled, how cross-contact is avoided and who you speak to about a reaction. Confirm in writing.

Preferences and performance goals

Vegetarian, no pork, low sugar, high protein: all are reasonable asks. Ask whether the kitchen adjusts per person or cooks one menu for the group. If you want specific macros, ask whether they can support it or whether you will manage it yourself.

Hot weather and hydration

Training in the heat changes appetite and thirst. Ask what is available for hydration and see the hydration guide for questions about hot-weather sessions.

Costs outside the plan

Ask what you will pay for beyond the plan, such as restaurants on days off. Add that to your budget line by line.

Questions people ask

What should I ask about allergies?

Ask how the kitchen manages cross-contact and whether they can accommodate your allergy in writing. For serious allergies, speak to the chef or manager directly.

Are meals usually included?

It varies. The Lions Gate site (read 2026-10-12) lists three chef-prepared meals a day plus snacks; confirm on the official site.

Can I follow a specific diet?

Many kitchens can adapt, but ask for specifics and sample menus. A rigid diet should be agreed before you travel.

Is this nutrition advice?

No. For medical or weight related concerns, consult a clinician or registered dietitian.
