Tulum retreat packing checklist
A practical packing list for a hot-climate training retreat: training kit, work gear, recovery items, documents and what to leave at home.
The short answer
Pack light on clothes and heavy on the things that are hard to replace: documents, medication, a working laptop setup, and gear that fits you. Use the interactive checklist below and tick items off as you pack.
Training and recovery gear
- Breathable training tops and shorts, more than you think you need in humid weather.
- Training shoes you have already broken in, plus sandals for the villa.
- Hand wraps, mouthguard and shin guards if you own fitted ones; confirm what is supplied.
- Rash guard or grappling kit if jiu-jitsu is on the schedule.
- A reusable water bottle.
Gear needs depend on the disciplines. The Lions Gate site (read 2026-10-12) lists boxing, Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu, strength training, breathwork and yoga; the program you choose sets the list.
Work kit
If you plan protected work blocks, pack as a remote worker would: laptop, charger, headphones, a travel router or hotspot as backup, and a short list of passwords stored in a password manager. See the Wi-Fi evaluation guide for what to test on arrival.
Documents, money and health
- Passport and any entry paperwork.
- Travel insurance policy number and the insurer emergency line.
- Prescription medication in original packaging, with a copy of the prescription.
- Some local currency and two payment cards kept in separate places.
- Sun protection and insect repellent.
What to leave at home
Leave behind valuables you would be upset to lose, bulky formal wear, and anything you only wear when you are not training. Villa life in a warm climate rewards a small, repeatable wardrobe.
Before you zip the bag
Check airline baggage limits, since sports gear and a laptop can push you over. Photograph your packed bag so you can describe it if it is delayed, and keep one training outfit in your carry-on.
Questions people ask
How much training clothing should I bring?
Enough for roughly one session per day plus spares, then wash as you go. Ask the retreat whether laundry is provided before packing for the full duration.
Should I bring my own gloves and wraps?
Many people prefer their own for fit and hygiene, but ask what the retreat supplies. Gear policies differ by program.
What about electronics and adapters?
Mexico uses the same plug style as the United States and Canada, but confirm voltage compatibility for each device. Bring a power strip if you work with several devices.
Can I rely on this list as medical advice?
No. It is general planning guidance. Ask a clinician about medication, vaccines and sun or heat concerns.
