Brewers beat Rays 5-4 for a 2-0 World Series lead after erasing another four-run hole
Sal Frelick tied Game 2 with a sixth-inning homer and Cooper Pratt got the winner. Game 3 is Monday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, with Tampa Bay needing a win to keep the Series alive.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Saturday night in Game 2 of the World Series and lead the best-of-seven Series 2-0, according to MLB.com. Game 3 is Monday, Oct. 26, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, Fox Deportes and Fox One, MLB.com's Game 3 preview says. Neither franchise has won a title, as our schedule guide noted.
How Game 2 turned
MLB.com reports the Rays scored four runs in the first inning, helped by errors. Milwaukee cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning and kept chipping away. In the sixth, outfielder Sal Frelick led off with a home run to tie it at 4-4. CBS Sports says Frelick, who hit four home runs in the regular season, saw nine pitches from Rays reliever Ian Seymour, all fastballs, and hit the ninth. Cooper Pratt then drove in the winning run, per MLB.com.
The numbers behind the comeback
- MLB.com says the Brewers joined the 1996 Yankees, 2002 Angels, 2005 White Sox and 2022 Phillies as the only teams to overcome multiple four-run deficits in a single postseason.
- They are the second team to win six postseason games in which they did not score first, per MLB.com.
- Reliever Aaron Ashby got five outs in Game 1 and five more to close Game 2. His scoreless streak is 15 2/3 innings, one out short of Andrew Miller's mark from 2016 for the start of a postseason, MLB.com reports.
- Catcher William Contreras has four hits, tied for the Series lead with Jonathan Aranda and Jackson Chourio, and made a key tag at home plate in Game 2.
What Tampa Bay faces in Game 3
MLB.com says the Rays' two main edges going into Game 2 faded: starter Drew Rasmussen had his shortest and weakest outing of an otherwise strong postseason, and Tampa Bay used relievers Cam Booser, Kevin Kelly and Ian Seymour in the loss. Closer Bryan Baker has yet to pitch in the Series. Freddy Peralta, who MLB.com says is 7-0 with a 0.89 ERA over his last 10 outings, starts Game 3 against the club he pitched for over eight seasons.
Watching and planning
- When: Game 3 on Monday at 8 p.m. ET; Games 4 and, if needed, 5 follow on Tuesday and Wednesday, per the schedule in our earlier guide. Check the broadcaster's listings for the final slate, since later games depend on results.
- Streaming: Fox One carries the games, per MLB.com. Local bars and restaurants that show games can expect their busiest nights of the baseball season in the two host cities, but we have no attendance or sales data to quantify that.
