Bitcoin at $79,673, Ether at $2,394: crypto prices today, November 5, 2026

Every coin we track is up over 24 hours after the midterm rebound, but Bitcoin, Solana and Cardano are still lower than a week ago. Bitcoin and Ether ETFs took in money again on Wednesday after days of outflows.

Bitcoin traded at about $79,673 on Coinbase early Thursday, up 1.8% over 24 hours but 1.9% below where it stood a week ago. Ether was at $2,394, up 3.4% on the day and 1.6% on the week. All eight coins we track rose overnight. Only Ether is ahead of where it was seven days ago, so the rebound is so far a recovery from a weak stretch, not a new leg up.

Coinbase Exchange prices at about 8:10 AM ET on November 5. The 24-hour change compares the latest trade with the price 24 hours earlier. The 7-day change compares it with the October 29 daily open (00:00 UTC), the first candle in the seven-day window.

What moved: the midterm rebound, with a caveat

Bitcoin climbed back above $80,000 on Wednesday as US stocks rallied after Democrats won control of Congress, Cointelegraph reported, citing CoinMarketCap data that had Bitcoin up more than 4% and Ether up 6% at one point on the day. Our Coinbase reading is lower because Bitcoin has since eased back under $80,000. For the stock-market side of the same day, see our report on the Dow's jump.

Not everyone credits the election. Cointelegraph quoted James Butterfill, head of research at CoinShares, saying Bitcoin had largely priced in a Democratic sweep beforehand, which left room for a relief rally once the uncertainty cleared. He cautioned against reading too much of the move as a verdict on the result.

ETF flows turned positive for a day

US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $74.6 million on Wednesday and Ether ETFs took in $53 million, according to SoSoValue data cited by Cointelegraph. That ended three straight sessions of Bitcoin ETF outflows totaling $1.16 billion and a seven-day run of Ether ETF outflows worth $657 million.

The detail under the headline matters. Farside Investors data showed BlackRock's IBIT still lost $201.2 million, its fourth straight session of outflows and $935.2 million in all, while Fidelity's FBTC took in about $237 million. Cointelegraph also reported that Bitcoin ETFs are now down only about $79 million for 2026, after the recent withdrawals.

Bitcoin versus stocks, and where the Trump tokens went

Glassnode, quoted by Cointelegraph, said Bitcoin beat the S&P 500 in 50% of sessions over the latest 90 trading days. It said the win rate had not been above 50% since March 2025. TradingView data put Bitcoin's 20-day correlation with the S&P 500 at 0.63, which means crypto is still trading largely with the stock market, not apart from it. The same report noted Capriole Investments data showing the S&P 500 gained an average of 10.7% in the three months after the seven earlier Democratic sweeps under Republican presidents. That is a stock-market history, not a crypto forecast.

The rebound was not even. The official Trump token fell 17% to $1.33 and World Liberty Financial's WLFI fell more than 7% to $0.047 on Wednesday, Cointelegraph reported, as traders weighed the odds of tougher scrutiny and a harder path for crypto legislation. The CLARITY Act market-structure bill is stalled after falling short of 60 Senate votes earlier this year.

Where Bitcoin sits on the longer view

Our chart of Yahoo Finance daily prices shows Bitcoin about 24.9% below its 12-month peak in that data, reached on November 10, 2025. A one-day bounce leaves it well short of that level. Bitcoin is down 1.9% from a week ago on Coinbase, so Wednesday's rise recovered part of a weak week and did not erase it.
