Why Bitcoiner Didi Taihuttu skips Ether: ETH's 2025 peak was only 2% above 2021, Bitcoin's was 83% higher

The Bitcoin Family's Didi Taihuttu says Ether going nowhere across two cycles is why he sticks to Bitcoin. We checked his chart claims against Coinbase daily data.

Didi Taihuttu of The Bitcoin Family, the Dutch Bitcoin advocate known for his daily beach-walk videos, used his latest video to answer a question he says he gets every day: why own Bitcoin and not Ether? His answer is a chart comparison of the last two market cycles. He stressed that he is not a financial adviser and that the views are his own. We pulled the numbers from Coinbase to see how his comparison holds up.

What he said, and what the data shows

Taihuttu said Ether topped near $4,700 in the 2021 bull market and near $4,800 in 2025, and called that unconvincing for an asset that "can't even make a new all-time high" four years later. He contrasted that with Bitcoin's move from roughly $67,000 to roughly $120,000 across the same two cycles.

His figures are close. On Coinbase daily data:

2021 peak2025 peakChangePrice Oct 23, 2026
Bitcoin (daily high)$69,000 (Nov 10, 2021)$126,296 (Oct 6, 2025)+83%$81,770
Ether (daily high)$4,868 (Nov 10, 2021)$4,956 (Aug 24, 2025)+1.8%$2,404

One small correction in Ether's favor: it did set a new all-time high, but by under 2%, so the practical point stands. Across four years, Ether's top moved by about $90 while Bitcoin's moved by more than $57,000. Both assets peaked on the same day in November 2021, and the cycle that followed rewarded them very differently.

Where each sits now

Ether's peak close of $4,831 came on August 22, 2025. At $2,404 it is about 50% below that. Bitcoin, at $81,770, is about 35% below its October 6, 2025 high of $126,296. Both have fallen from their peaks, and Ether has fallen further. Our crypto prices report has the full board for today.

His view of the cycle

Taihuttu said he reads the weekly chart as a four-year pattern that "rhymes" rather than repeats, and that he expects diminishing returns each cycle. He told viewers he expects the next top between roughly $170,000 and $250,000 around the end of 2029, and said he does not believe in $400,000. That is his opinion, not our forecast, and no chart pattern guarantees a repeat. Past cycles are a sample of only three or four, and no chart pattern guarantees a repeat.

He also described a routine of buying gradually when price sits under a downtrend line and said he stays disciplined through dips. That is a personal approach, not a recommendation, and gradual buying does not protect against a falling market.

Why the comparison is useful

The cleanest reading of the data is narrow. Over the last two cycle tops, Bitcoin's peak rose far more than Ether's did. It says nothing about which asset leads the next one, and Ether has different drivers, including staking and its use across applications. Readers weighing the two should look at what each is used for, not only at the chart.
