Quant (QNT) hit $372 Sunday, then fell 48% by dawn; still up 277% on the week with no new news

The token jumped 63% inside one hour on Coinbase on Sunday evening, then gave back almost half overnight. Quant's own news page has nothing newer than Thursday's bank announcement.

Quant's QNT token is up about 53% in the past 24 hours and 277% over seven days, according to CoinGecko, again the largest coin by market value on this morning's movers list. It traded near $250 on Coinbase at about 7:40 AM ET, giving it a market value of about $3.65 billion.

That headline number hides the real story of the last 24 hours. On Sunday evening QNT spiked to $372 on Coinbase, then fell to $194.91 by 5 AM Monday, a drop of about 48% from the top in roughly eleven hours, before bouncing back toward $250.

This is our third story on Quant in four days. We covered it Friday near $98 and again Sunday morning near $164. The new part today is the size and speed of Sunday night's swing.

Figures from CoinGecko at about 7:38 AM ET. Our 7:25 AM scan showed a 7-day gain of 247.8%; the difference is how fast the price was moving between the two readings.

Read together, the rows say this is almost entirely a five-day move. QNT closed at $70.68 on Coinbase last Wednesday, which put the whole token supply at roughly $1 billion. It has since added about $2.6 billion in market value, and it is still about 41% below its 2021 peak.

Sunday night, hour by hour

Coinbase's hourly prices show QNT climbing steadily through Sunday, from about $163 at 8 AM ET to about $197 at 5 PM. Then, in the 6 PM hour, it opened at $228 and traded as high as $372, a 63% range inside sixty minutes. The 7 PM hour was the busiest of the day on Coinbase, with about 136,000 QNT changing hands as the price slid back to $286.

From there it bled lower overnight to the 5 AM low, then recovered. CoinDesk noted on Monday that QNT was down about 16% since midnight UTC as the broader altcoin market sold off, with 91 of the 100 tokens in the CoinDesk 100 lower on the day.

The number behind the number

CoinGecko tracked about $1.53 billion of QNT trading in the past 24 hours, nearly three times the $547 million it showed at this time Sunday. That gives a churn ratio, volume divided by market value, of about 0.42. It is not the extreme above 1.0 we see on small tokens, but for a coin worth more than $3 billion it is very high.

A sharper way to see it: Coinbase alone reported about 933,000 QNT traded in 24 hours. CoinGecko counts about 14.5 million QNT in circulation, so roughly 6.4% of every token that exists changed hands on one US exchange in a day. When turnover runs that hot, the price is being set by traders passing the token among themselves at speed, and Sunday night showed how fast that can run both ways.

The cause: still Thursday's news

The one verified catalyst remains Thursday, September 24, when The Clearing House said Quant's software would run the orchestration layer of its tokenized-deposit network. Quant's own news page lists that announcement as its latest item. We checked the CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, Decrypt, The Block, CryptoSlate and CryptoPotato feeds and found no Quant announcement dated Sunday or Monday.

CryptoPotato reported that social-media posts are pointing to older Quant partnerships and that at least one widely followed trader cited high futures funding rates, a sign of crowded bullish bets. Those are claims from posts on X, not company announcements, and we could not verify them. We cannot tell you what triggered a 63% move in one hour on a Sunday evening, and we will not guess.

The point we made Friday still applies: the bank announcements describe contracts for Quant's software, and neither mentions the QNT token.

Live prices are on our crypto prices page, every coin up 100% or more over one or two weeks is on /movers, and the token tracker covers smaller tokens with pool liquidity and buy-sell pressure.
