Tom Lee says ether could top $10,000 within 12 months. From $2,395 that is a 4.2x gain
The chairman of Bitmine, the largest ether treasury, repeats a $10,000-plus call on a 12-month horizon, while also saying $5,000 by year-end. Bitmine holds 6.04 million ETH, so he gains if the call is right.
Disclosure first: Tom Lee, the Fundstrat co-founder, is chairman of Bitmine Immersion Technologies, which holds 6,041,481 ETH as of Oct. 18, according to Bitmine's Oct. 19 holdings release. A higher ether price directly benefits his company. Treat his forecast as the view of an interested party.
What he said, and when
Lee's $10,000 figure has a moving timeframe, so here is what we could confirm. At TOKEN2049 in Singapore on Oct. 9, Yahoo Finance reported he expects "much higher prices than 10,000" within 12 months, with ether then near $2,670. The same report has him saying ether should top $5,000 by year-end, which it describes as half the $10,000 year-end figure he had called "conservative" a month earlier. COINOTAG summarises a video interview dated Oct. 20 in which he says ether can trade far above $10,000 within a year. That summary carries no direct quotes, so we rely on the Yahoo wording for what he said.
We could not find a new CNBC or Fox Business appearance, and a YouTube video that prompted this story was used only as a lead, not as a source. We also could not confirm from a primary page his current wording on tokenization or stablecoins. What Yahoo does report is his argument that ether is "massively undervalued" after years of sideways trading, and that this cycle is driven by institutions building products on blockchains rather than retail ICO and NFT flows.
What it would take
| Item | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Ether now | $2,395 | Coinbase, Oct. 19, evening ET |
| Multiple to $10,000 | about 4.2x | 10,000 divided by 2,395 |
| Multiple to $5,000 (year-end call) | about 2.1x | Chronicle |
| All-time high | $4,946, Aug. 24, 2025 | CoinGecko |
| Below the high | about 52% | Chronicle |
| Bitmine ETH at today's price | about $14.5 billion | 6,041,481 x $2,395, Chronicle |
Put plainly, $10,000 is more than double the record set last year, and ether is roughly half that record today. Bitmine's own release values its ETH at $2,365 on Oct. 18, against $2,544 a week earlier, so the company's reported holdings have shrunk in dollar terms even as it added tokens.
The counter-case
Lee's own numbers carry a tension. He ties ether to bitcoin, saying at $100,000 bitcoin ether would be near $7,500 (Yahoo), yet bitcoin is trading below that level in our recent coverage. His longer-term cycle figure was also trimmed to "25,000 or 50,000" from an illustrative $62,000 nine days earlier, per Yahoo. Forecasts that keep changing are worth reading as a mood, not a model.
Then there is demand. Bitmine said on Oct. 7 it will stop buying at 5% of supply and sits at about 4.9%, so its weekly purchases, which were 12,532 ETH in the week to Oct. 11 per its releases, are close to ending (see our report). We did not pull fresh ETF flow or competing-chain data this run, so we make no claim on those; readers weighing the call should check them.
