What to eat in Irving, Texas: a food guide to Las Colinas and around town
Heading to Toyota Music Factory, the Mandalay Canal, or just passing through Las Colinas? Here's where we'd stop to eat first.
Irving packs a lot into one city: Las Colinas' office towers and Lake Carolyn high-rises, the Mandalay Canal, the Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture, Toyota Music Factory's concert hall and Alamo Drafthouse, the Irving Arts Center, and a straight shot to the rest of DFW's stadiums and arenas in Arlington and Frisco. Here's our running list of where to eat around it — starting with the spot we send people to most.
Our pick: Di Memo's Pizza, for the table that can't agree
Di Memo's Pizza, on North Belt Line Road, is the answer when your group wants tacos, pizza, and Italian all at the same table and nobody wants to compromise. It runs New York-style pizza, a full street-taco counter (birria, al pastor, cabeza, suadero, and more), and Italian-American plates like chicken parmigiana and baked ziti out of one kitchen. Reviewers praise the horchata, the dough on the big pies, and a build-your-own pizza topped with birria that Di Memo's own Instagram calls "La Original TacoPizza." It's a short drive from Las Colinas and the Toyota Music Factory corridor, and it's built for groups — the XL pizza alone is what regulars order for office lunches and family tables.
Before a show at Toyota Music Factory
Toyota Music Factory's Pavilion swings from a 4,000-seat indoor hall to an 8,000-seat outdoor amphitheater, and the development around it is stacked with restaurants and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. If you're the type who'd rather eat somewhere with a little more room and a lot less wait before fighting the venue crowd for food, grabbing tacos or a quick pizza at Di Memo's on the way in is the move — order ahead online and it's ready when you are.
A walk around the Mandalay Canal
The Mandalay Canal in Las Colinas is Irving's version of a Venetian waterway walk, with gondola rides available on Lake Carolyn and the Mustangs of Las Colinas — the world's largest equestrian sculpture — anchoring the Williams Square plaza nearby. It's a built-in excuse for an afternoon out, and a sit-down taco plate or a pizza to split afterward rounds it out without much of a detour.
Family day: Irving Arts Center and the Flower Clock
Between the Irving Arts Center's family-friendly performances and the Las Colinas Flower Clock, Irving has enough low-key, kid-friendly stops to fill an afternoon. Di Memo's menu is built for exactly that kind of day — wings and a personal pizza for the kids, tacos and horchata for the adults, one ticket for the whole table.
Headed to a game in DFW
Irving sits close to the center of the Metroplex, which makes it a natural stop on the way to AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field in Arlington or The Star and Toyota Stadium in Frisco. A quick stop at Di Memo's for tacos to go, or a pizza ordered ahead for the tailgate, beats whatever's left in the stadium concourse line.
