Under $80,000 as the Fed meets
CoinDesk's headline this morning says bitcoin dropped below $80,000 as crypto ignored a rally in Asian tech stocks, with the Federal Reserve's meeting beginning. The decision is due Wednesday; our Monday report covered what the market expects. On our own data the move so far is small: bitcoin is about 0.6% lower than 24 hours ago and has held above $79,000 since the weekend lows. The year view shows the larger picture, with bitcoin about 30% below its level of a year ago, the high of the past 12 months on Yahoo Finance data.
ETF flows: a rebound inside a weak month
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $110 million on Monday, after $774 million of withdrawals over the two prior sessions, Cointelegraph reported, citing SoSoValue. October is still negative at about $202 million of net outflows through Monday. Cointelegraph also cited a CryptoQuant analyst who said retail deposits of bitcoin to Binance nearly doubled to $10.8 billion over 30 days while deposits from large holders fell to $3.8 billion, and who suggested smaller investors may be selling into the rebound. That is one analyst's reading of exchange flows, not a confirmed cause of any price move. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index slipped to 48 from 50, still in "Neutral," according to the same report.
Cointelegraph put bitcoin's seven-day loss at 2.6% using CoinGecko data. Ours is 3.9% because we measure from the October 20 daily close on Coinbase, a higher reference point. The direction is the same.
Ripple's bank approval and XRP
CoinDesk reported this morning that Ripple received a final go-ahead to launch its own U.S. national trust bank, and a CoinDesk markets note said the news failed to lift XRP. That fits our table: XRP is up 0.4% on the day, roughly flat, and down 2.6% on the week. We have not read the regulator's decision itself, so we are not describing its terms here. We looked for a specific reason behind the steeper weekly drops in Avalanche and Cardano and did not find one in the coverage we read.
