A rebound into the Fed decision
Cointelegraph reported that bitcoin reached $81,687 on Bitstamp on Wednesday, with buy orders thickening around $79,000 and $80,000 and resistance holding near $82,000, citing CoinGlass and TradingView data. CoinDesk's headline attributes the lift to an Asian chip rally spilling into crypto. South Korea's KOSPI gained 6.63%, according to Cointelegraph, and the Nasdaq Composite closed up 1.1% on Tuesday ahead of earnings from Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Intel. We have not tested whether the stock move caused the crypto move, so read it as a same-day coincidence that both outlets link.
Cointelegraph also quoted Morgan Stanley's Mike Wilson telling CNBC that "most of the correction is already over" for tech stocks. That is a view on equities, not on bitcoin. On our chart, bitcoin is 28.3% below its peak of October 28, 2025, the high of the past year on Yahoo Finance data.
The Fed is expected to hold
The Federal Reserve decides on rates today. Cointelegraph cited CME Group's FedWatch tool as showing 90.6% odds that rates stay in the current 3.75% to 4% range. That is a futures-market price, not a Fed statement. Traders will watch the statement and the bond market's reaction; see the 10-year chart.
Coinbase says a vendor, not its systems, exposed customer data
Cointelegraph reported that Coinbase said an incident at analytics vendor Amplitude exposed contact information for a "small subset" of its customers, along with other Amplitude clients. Coinbase said it found no evidence that its own systems were breached and that customer funds were not affected. Cointelegraph said it had not received an answer on how many customers were affected. Separately, it reported that South Korea's Bithumb is investigating a possible exposure of customer information. We have not independently confirmed either company's account.
What we could not explain
CoinDesk's headline says pepe jumped 9%. We did not pull that coin's data and did not find a project-specific reason in the coverage we read. We also found no reason for Cardano's and Avalanche's steeper weekly losses.
What traders are watching
- The Fed statement today, and whether the 10-year yield moves with it.
- $82,000, the resistance Cointelegraph flagged, and $80,000 below.
- Big tech earnings, which have been driving the mood in risk assets this week.
