Bitcoin at $86,124, Ether at $2,715: crypto prices today, October 5, 2026

Bitcoin came within about $400 of its late-September high before pulling back, while Cardano jumped 11% in a day. A dollar at an 18-month high is the main outside pressure.

Bitcoin traded at about $86,124 on Coinbase early Monday, up 1.2% over 24 hours and 3.2% over seven days. Ether was at $2,715, up 0.7% on the day and 1.0% on the week. A range that has held twice

CoinDesk reported that the climb built through Sunday and carried bitcoin to a peak just under $86,950 before sellers pushed it back. It is the second rally in a week to stall below the late-September high. The first came last Wednesday, when bitcoin jumped to $85,500 after a softer U.S. inflation report and gave the move back within hours. On Coinbase's tape the past 24 hours spanned $85,083 to $86,996, a range of about 2.2%. CoinDesk's read is that a daily close above $87,000 would be the first sign buyers can get through that high. Cointelegraph's Monday copy describes the same $84,000 to $87,000 band.

The dollar is the outside pressure

The U.S. Dollar Index reached roughly 102.5 on Monday, its highest in nearly 18 months and up from around 99 in early September, CoinDesk reported. The euro is near 1.12, a 17-month low, on French fiscal worries and a snap Spanish election called for November 29. CoinDesk also noted the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points to 3.75% to 4% in September and that markets are pricing further tightening.

The bond market agrees. The Treasury's daily curve shows the 10-year yield at 5.28% and the 30-year at 5.63% on Friday, October 2, up from 5.24% and 5.61% the day before, according to the Treasury. Bitcoin has held up against that backdrop. Whether it keeps doing so is not something these numbers can tell us. See the 10-year chart for the yield path.

ETF flows split, and Cardano leads the majors

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $241.1 million last week, a third straight weekly inflow, but far below the $2.4 billion the week before, Cointelegraph reported, citing SoSoValue. Ether ETFs flipped to $138 million of outflows after $690 million of inflows the week before. Cointelegraph also noted the Crypto Fear & Greed Index slipped to 70 from 74, still in "Greed."

The biggest mover on our list was Cardano, up 11.4% in 24 hours to $0.2727. CoinDesk said the exact reason is hard to pin down and floated a "RealFi" product announced October 1 and an upcoming network upgrade as possible explanations. Neither is confirmed as the cause, so treat them as context only. Chainlink is the laggard on the week at -8.0%, and we did not find a specific reason in the coverage we read.

What traders are watching

  • A daily close above $87,000 on bitcoin, which has now been rejected there twice.
  • The dollar and long yields, with the Fed's September minutes ahead this week.
  • ETF flows, after Ether funds turned red again.
