Bitcoin rose 1% overnight even as the 30-year Treasury yield closed at 5.56%. Avalanche jumped 13% with no cause we could find, and ETF inflows slowed to a trickle.
Bitcoin traded at about $84,394 on Coinbase early Tuesday, up 1.0% over 24 hours but still down 2.1% over seven days. Ether was at $2,731, up 1.5%. Seven of the eight coins we track rose overnight, a reversal of Monday, when every one of them fell. Avalanche was the standout, up 13.0%, and Chainlink added 3.8% to extend a 17.4% weekly gain. XRP was the only coin lower on the day.

Crypto held while long bonds sold off
The backdrop was rough. The 30-year Treasury yield closed Monday at 5.56% and the 10-year at 5.24%, up from 5.49% and 5.17% on Friday, according to the Treasury's own daily yield curve. Intraday, the 30-year touched 5.58%, its highest since June 2002, Cointelegraph reported, with uncertainty over the U.S.-Iran conflict and oil supplies weighing on risk assets.
Bitcoin's 24-hour range on Coinbase ran from $82,510 to $84,483, so the low came within about $10 of the $82,500 level that trader Rekt Capital has called the line protecting the uptrend. It held, and the coin bounced. The number we keep checking is the average cost of bitcoin held in U.S. spot ETFs, which Bloomberg Intelligence's James Seyffart estimates at $81,722, per Cointelegraph. Bitcoin is now about $2,670, or 3.3%, above it, up from a 1.9% cushion on Monday morning.
The ETF bid has thinned out
Fund buying did not drive the rebound. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $31.07 million on Monday, down from $134.47 million on Friday and a fraction of last week's $2.39 billion, Cointelegraph reported, citing SoSoValue. Ether funds added $17.1 million, Solana funds $12.7 million and XRP funds $3.96 million. All four are still on inflow streaks, eight straight sessions for Bitcoin, but the size of the daily bid has fallen by about 80% since Friday. With the August PCE inflation print due Wednesday and September payrolls on Friday, that is the flow to watch.
Avalanche, Chainlink and Coinbase
We looked for a specific reason behind Avalanche's 13% jump, which took it from about $10.54 to $11.91 and to an intraday high of $12.00, and did not find one in the CoinDesk and Cointelegraph reports we read. Treat it as unexplained for now. Chainlink did have news: on Monday it launched CCIP 2.0, a new version of its cross-chain transfer system that lets apps add their own security verifiers on top of its default network of 16 node operators, CoinDesk reported. We cannot say how much of the move that explains, and Chainlink was already the strongest coin on our board before the launch.
Separately, Coinbase received CFTC approval for its own derivatives clearinghouse, Coinbase Clearing LLC, effective Monday, Cointelegraph reported. It can clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures and swaps, but not Coinbase's leveraged products. For futures traders, it means Coinbase now runs the broker, the exchange and the clearing for its U.S. contracts.
