How to read this board

Best price, flagged

Every side of every game is compared across all the books on the board, and the best available number is boxed in green. On a moneyline that is simply the biggest payout. On a spread or a total, points beat juice: a book giving you half a point more is flagged ahead of one shaving a few cents off the price, because the extra half point is worth more than the cents almost every time.

Hold: what the game costs you

Convert both sides of a moneyline into probabilities and they add up to more than 100%. The excess is the hold, the book's cut, and it is the real price of the bet. A tight NFL side might hold 4%. A bad number on an obscure market can hold 8% or more. We show the range across the books on each game so you can see who is charging the most for the same event.

The Chronicle Line

We take the hold out. Each book's two sides are de-vigged on their own, then we take the median across every book so a single outlier cannot drag the number around. What is left is the clean probability the market is actually pricing. A team at 62% is the market saying it wins roughly three times in five. It is arithmetic on published prices, not a forecast and not a pick.

What line shopping is worth

Under each game we print the dollar gap between the best and worst moneyline on a $100 stake. It is usually a few dollars. Over a season of bets it is the whole difference between winning and losing, which is why the number is on the page instead of buried in an article about it.

Frequently asked

Where do these numbers come from?

Prices published by licensed US sportsbooks, refreshed through the day. Lines move; the timestamp at the top of the page is the last refresh.

Do you take bets or sell picks?

No. The Company Chronicle is a business and markets publication. We have no sportsbook affiliations, take no referral fees and are paid nothing if you use any price shown here. The board exists because pricing is a market, and we cover markets.

Why does the best price change between markets?

Books do not price every market equally. One may be sharpest on NFL sides and loose on totals. Switching the market toggle re-runs the comparison, which is exactly why shopping matters.

What does a negative number mean?

American odds. A minus number is what you stake to win $100, so −150 means risk $150 to win $100. A plus number is what $100 wins, so +130 means a $100 stake returns $130 profit. The more negative the number, the more likely the market thinks that side is.
